BlackRose (Black is the Color Remixed)

Release date
2010-11-11
Author
Xaphoid
Genre
Drum & Bass
Description
I released a ccmixter remix and just wasn't satisfied with it. I never really am anyway. I decided to take the vocals out completely and really flesh out a more demo-style melodic and flashy version.

This reminds me of a DnB remix of either the early Zelda game or the first Final Fantasy. I cannot place it exactly, but those synths have that early almost 8 bit sound going on. It is for sure the demo style. Sounds really well done on my end. However, the ass rattling bass is lacking on my head phones (Audio Technia ATH M50) and I feel like they should be throbbing like an earthquake inside my brain, but are not moving at all.

btw, where can i get that amazing bass patch? You nailed the drum n bass genre with that bad boy... and your slides, lifts and what else with it, just rock.
  • Most of the bass sounds are done with my korg micro. I'm no sure about how to satisfy the throbbing like an earthquake request. I tested in my car and it almost rattles them out of the door panel as it is. :P I cut the subsonics at 20hz out so as not to generate too much rumble. Anyway I'm glad you like it. Thank you for the praise.

I figured you gave it the 20hz cut and I believe you about the car rattling, i just have my inaccurate monitoring with these headphones and for me cutting at 20hz, just kills all the bass in these to a point where i always have to include at least down to 15hz so I can feel it a little. :P
  • yea I have Sennheiser hd 202's which don't pick up much lows below 35hz and neither do my fostex monitors. I rely on spectrographs and analyzers to tame the low end with. Then I go and test the bottom end stability in my truck.

yep! cool remix I liked the melodic lines all accross the song. Excellent! I'd cut some of the higher freqs (from about 1Khz to 16 Khz, something like that) as it sounds a bit bright and metallic, well for my taste. thanks!
